Selena was born on April 16,1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. When Selena was 9 her father created "Selena y los Dinos" consisting of his several children. They initially performed in their families restaurant, but they went bankrupt soon thereafter. They moved to Corpus Chirsti, Texas where Selena and los Dinos performed wherever they could - street corners, weddings, quinceañeras, and fairs and released their  first album  at the age of 12. The more she performed the more people noticed her until she slowly and slowly started to recognized and soon Selena began to become more popular which meant less time for education. Her music career interfered with her education so much, her dad had to take her out of school in the 8th grade.
                Her musical career began in 1989 when Jose Behar, the former head of Sony, signed a contract with Selena. He thought her music was unique and definitely fun to hear after he heard her sing in a street corner in Corpus Christi. A year before, she met Chris Perez in which the Quintanilla family accepted into Selena's band. Selena and Chris instantly fell in love and got married on April 2nd, 1992. In 1992 Selena's stardom got a big boost with the song "Como la Flor"."Amor Prohibido" was a success in Mexico also, who replaced Gloria Estefan's "Mi tierra" on the chart's #1 spot and it sold over 400,000 copies. She then began her own clothing line in 1994 and opened two boutiques.

                SELENA QUINTANILLA   

                   The person i am researching is Selena Quintanilla also known as "the top Latin artist of the 90's"!She's a Mexican american born in LakeJackson,Texas. 

One of Selena's dreams was to have her own farm. Towards the end of her life she and Chris had purchased 10 acres of land just outside of Corpus Christi, on which they planned to build a farm, raise horses, and build their own house.As a teenager Selena's favorite TV show was the 80's hit 'Moonlighting' which starred Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard. The name Selena comes from the words "Selenite" and "moonstone". Selena also designed all of her concert outfits which she later turned into a clothing line. She even built two boutiques in which she sold her designs
                   I decide to do my Latin musical artist research on Selena Quintanilla because she's really inspired me. my mom grew up as a teen listening to her music... she said it was like a Justin Bieber thing in that time. She said teens loved Selena and not only saw her as a great singer but as the girl who would laugh all the time and care for her fans. Although now Selena rests in peace she's inspired me to research her in many ways. She's showed me that you should always stay positive no matter what. She's showed me that life is short and that you should be loud and have fun and appreciate life. Selena's music is another reason I've chosen her. The fantastic way she was able to combine "cumbia" and "techno" together created one of her best selling hits "Techno Cumbia"
